CARTRIDGES AND STYLI
What are cartridges/styli/needles?
Cartridges (carts) are the small device on the end of the turntable arm, which you put a stylus into.
In technical terms, the cartridge converts the movement of the stylus (the needle) being dragged through the groove on the record into 2 electrical signals (left and right).
They are essential to every DJ playing records, and widely vary in price.
Are these carts suitable for scratching?
In theory, every cartridge on 123dj.com is suitable for scratching, as every cart we sell is a 'DJ cartridge'. However, some carts have been specifically designed for scratch DJ's, and are shown as such.
How do you fit cartridges?
You really should follow the instructions supplied with your cartridge, as the connection for each cartridge are different.
Please take the time to read and follow the guidelines which come with every cartridge we sell, as setting it up correctly will help you get the most from your decks, setting it up incorrectly can cause permanent damage to your records. Stanton provides a useful guide to setting up cartridges on their website at www.stantonmagnetics.com
How do you set up cartridges?
Again, you really should follow the instructions supplied with your cartridge, as each one is different.
Setting up your cart/stylus and decks correctly will help you get the most from them, and setting them up incorrectly can cause permanent damage to your records.
Do you sell a replacement stylus for my record player?
We sell a range of DJ carts and stylus from all the leading manufacturers, all of which are suitable for mixing and scratching.
All the carts and stylus we sell are shown on the site, and are designed for DJ use. We don't stock carts and stylus for old record players, and can't special order these either, as we normally deal with a companies pro-audio division, and not their hi-fi one.
